Easy Apple Butter Cake
Fall never tasted this good with this egg free Easy Apple Butter Cake! A 9×13 sheet cake with melt in your mouth cream cheese frosting.
Have you ever made apple butter? It’s so easy to make…especially in the slow cooker! Once you get the easy technique down, you can use apple butter in and on so many things. And you’ll definitely want to try making this easy apple butter cake.
What is the difference between applesauce and apple butter?
Both apple butter and apple sauce are slow cooked apples and spices. Apple butter is cooked longer than applesauce which creates a thick, smooth, intense apple flavored spread.
For the most intense apple flavor in this cake (and the best texture), be sure to use apple butter.
Cake Without Eggs
One thing I love about this easy cake is that there are no eggs. Whether you have an egg allergy, or are just craving cake and happen to be out of eggs, this is the cake for you!
The apple butter takes the place of eggs and keeps this cake moist and tender.
How to Make Apple Butter Cake
Let’s walk through the steps of making this easy sheet cake:
- Preheat oven to 350º Fahrenheit. Then line a 9″ x 13″ cake pan with parchment paper and spray with cooking spray. Set aside. **Parchment paper helps the cake come out cleanly when you cut it. If you don’t have any, you can simply grease the cake pan.**
- In a large bowl, combine the butter and sugars with an electric mixer. Beat for 2 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add apple butter and vanilla extract, beating until combined.
- In a separate medium bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and apple pie seasoning.
- Add half of the dry mixture to the apple butter mixture, incorporate thoroughly, then incorporate the remaining half until just combined.
- Spread mixture into the prepared cake pan.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes, until an inserted toothpick or cake tester comes out clean.
Make the Cream Cheese Frosting
Cream cheese frosting is one of the easiest frostings to make. The key is to make sure the cream cheese and butter are at room temperature. Blend all of the ingredients together until they are smooth.
If the frosting seems too thick to spread, add heavy cream one tablespoon at a time until you can easily spread the frosting on the cooled cake.
How to Store Cake
This cake is safe to store at room temperature for 48 hours. Be sure to cover the cake after you cut it to prevent it from drying out.
Can I freeze cake?
This cake freezes well! The apple butter keeps the cake from drying out when freezing.
When you are ready to serve the cake, remove the cake from the freezer. Allow the cake to come to room temperature before opening the package or container. This will keep the moisture in the cake and keep it soft.
