Peppermint Patty Cake Mix Cookies

Soft, fudgy chocolate cookies with just 5 ingredients! Peppermint Patty Cake Mix Cookies are full of chocolate mint flavor.

My favorite candy is hands down peppermint patties. When the kids were younger I’d slip one into the cart almost every time I was checking out at a grocery store. I have slightly more self control now, but all self control goes out the window when these Peppermint Patty Cake Mix Cookies are around.

❤️ Why you’ll love this recipe:

  • Only 5 ingredients.
  • Soft cookies that stay soft.
  • A pop of peppermint flavor inside.
  • Decorate for any occasion or holiday.

Can you make cookies with cake mix?

Yes and it is super easy! Although you’ll find many variations of cake mix cookies on the web, this version stays extra soft with egg, cream cheese and butter. Be sure to choose a traditional size cake mix, which can range from 15 to 18 ounces.

Don’t worry…if you don’t love cream cheese you won’t taste it in these cookies. It just helps the cookies be soft. The chocolate flavor takes center stage. If you want a cake mix cookie recipe without cream cheese, try this one.

How to Make Peppermint Patty Cake Mix Cookies

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • In a small bowl, mix the cake mix, egg, cream cheese and butter until it is all well combined. The mixture will be very thick.
  • Make 16 balls out of the chocolate batter.
  • Flatten each ball in the palm of your hand. Place a peppermint patty on each flattened ball and wrap the cookie dough around the peppermint patty so it is covered completely. Repeat with the remaining peppermint patties and dough.
  • Place the cookies on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
  • Sprinkle with colored sprinkles, if desired.
  • Bake for 10-11 minutes. If you want them to stay soft, don’t overbake them. This can dry them out from the start.

The cookies will be very soft when they are fresh from the oven, so let them set on the pan for 4-5 minutes, then move them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-5 days. They freeze well too! After freezing, let them come to room temperature before opening the container to retain freshness.

Recipe Variations:

  • Try a different flavor cake mix. White cake or red velvet cake would be delicious.
  • Stuff the cookies with a different candy. Think Snickers bars or three musketeers.
  • Drizzle with white chocolate or milk chocolate to make them look extra pretty.
  • Top with chopped nuts.
